Who is Breakfast Table?
The restaurant concept was born out of Executive Chef George Koay’s dissatisfaction with the uninspiring brunch options he encountered while dining out with his wife, Sylvia, a brunch enthusiast herself.
This dissatisfaction, combined with Koay’s extensive culinary experience, including his previous roles as Executive Chef at Lift in Coal Harbour and the xxxxx Hotel to the opening of C Prime, culminated in the creation of Breakfast Table.
Chef George eventually teamed up with Sylvia’s brother Michael Lee, a seasoned restaurant professional with diverse front-of-house management experience like supervising JOEYS Bentall and bar manager in the Gerard Lounge at The Sutton Place Hotel, to open Breakfast Table in 2016.
Hello Steveston!
Michael relocated to Steveston three years ago to raise his young family. His immersion in the community and familiarity with the locality prompted the trio to open a new branch of Breakfast Table there.
The warm, community-oriented atmosphere of Steveston, which resembles the feel of South Granville, along with the unique charm of the neighborhood, made it an ideal location.
Although Steveston is already home to a number of restaurants, the team felt that Breakfast Table had something distinctive to contribute to the local culinary scene.
The Food & Interior
While the Steveston menu largely mirrors that of the Granville outpost, a few exceptions are present, thanks to the culinary prowess of the new location’s Chef, Mike Tuangkitkun.
Drawing from his Thai cooking background, Chef Tuangkitkun infuses his own unique flavour profiles into the Breakfast Table menu, especially in the features and the upcoming fall menu.
Guests can anticipate his creative flair to bring a fresh twist to the traditional brunch fare.
In line with their vision to make Breakfast Table Steveston an extension of the Granville location, the team implemented a similar colour palette on the walls to maintain a bright, welcoming environment.
However, they have introduced a few changes to honor the oceanfront community of Steveston and their own Asian heritage. The interior design reflects the influence of these elements, creating an atmosphere that is both familiar to their patrons and distinctive to the Steveston community.
