The Broadway SkyTrain construction has claimed yet another victim in Vancouverโs food scene.
On September 14, The Greek announced on Instagram that their Broadway location will be shutting down.
The heartfelt post explained that while the team had high hopes when opening in December 2023, ongoing delays and disruptions from the SkyTrain extension project made it impossible to sustain operations until the lineโs completion in 2027.
Their message reads, โThis isnโt the ending we hoped for, but the memories made here in such a short time mean the world to us. To everyone who came through our doors, thank you. Your support, your celebrations, and your love for Greek food and culture have kept our family going.โ
For those unfamiliar with their story, The Greek traces its roots back to North Vancouverโs Anatoli Souvlaki, which opened in 1984.
The sons of the owners carried on the family tradition with the launch of The Greek Yaletown in 2018, which became a popular spot for cocktails and lively gatherings.
The concept grew to Gastown, North Vancouver, and eventually Broadway in 2023.
For the latter, the locationโs proximity to the Canada Line station made it a popular grab-and-go lunch option for nearby office workers.
The space also offered expanded catering capacity for group events.
But like Simit Bakery, Yushang Hot Pot, and others, the ongoing construction along Broadway has taken a toll and eventually to a breaking point.
The last day of operation for this location is Tuesday, September 16th.
The Greek Broadway is now among the casualties, closing less than two years after opening.
Fans of their souvlaki and vibes can still visit their other locations in Yaletown, Gastown, and North Vancouver.
The Greek Broadway now joins other recently closed Vancouver food spots like Lombardoโs Pizzeria, Mr. Red Cafe, and Kyochon.
