Another beloved eatery bites the dust in Burnaby, leaving locals heartbroken.

Just last month, we bid farewell to Double One Restaurant in Burnaby after 60 years.

And now, Burnaby has lost another longtime gem.

On January 26th, Instagram user @yothatssobomb shared the sad discovery that On On Wonton House, a neighbourhood spot since 1965, has closed its doors for good.

The spot served up old-school Cantonese and Western Canadian-Chinese classics.

From the name you’d think this was a wonton soup specialty spot, but inside is much like your conventional Chinese restaurant with the big round tables and white table cloths.

Their most popular dishes included Beef Brisket Wonton Noodle Soup, Wor Wonton Soup, or a plate of Sweet and Sour Pork.

Locals appreciated the reasonable prices (think $10 to $30 per dish) and generous portions, making it great for family dinners or takeout on a lazy evening.

Despite the less-than-stellar reviews about the dated decor and sometimes slow service, it didn’t stop the restaurant’s popularity among families.

Just on the unofficial Facebook page, more than 2000 people have checked in at On On Wonton House and countless photos of family gatherings and birthday celebrations.

Sadly, the closure came without much warning, nor were there any mention of it on their website or a reason why it has shut down.
