According to the listing, the longtime owners are retiring, and the search is now on for a new owner to potentially take over the spot.

For over two decades, Kilala has been quietly serving up fresh, high-quality sushi from its modest brick storefront in North Burnaby.

It’s one of those spots you might walk past without noticing, but locals know it as one of the best authentically Japanese-owned and operated sushi bars in the area.

It’s been celebrated for its fresh nigiri, assorted combos, and no-frills, family-run charm.

We’ve eaten at Kilala multiple times over the years for their fresh quality nigiri and combo sets.

According to the listing, the restaurant is being offered at $158,800 and comes fully equipped with a Class 1 ventilation system and grease trap.

It seats 10 guests inside with the potential for a patio (permit pending), and it currently holds a 4.7-star Google rating.

The lease runs through 2028 and is assignable, with a landlord open to discussions.

While Sushi Bar Kilala isn’t shutting down just yet, this may be the last opportunity to enjoy sushi made by the original chef behind it.

It’s another emotional shift for the North Burnaby food scene, especially after losing Kazu Japanese Restaurant last year, another long-standing, authentic Japanese eatery that quietly closed its doors.

There no telling when the switch of ownership will happen so you might want to go soon.
