Burnaby Ramen Shop Announces Closure After 6 Years and Upcoming Rebranding

For ramen lovers in North Burnaby, a big change is on the way.

Ramen Gaoh, the beloved miso specialty ramen spot in Burnaby Heights, has announced it will be shutting down and rebranding.

The change will bring a new chapter for the location—Ramen Gaoh will officially transform into its sister restaurant, Ramen Butcher, as of December 1st.

Ramen Gaoh first opened its doors in 2018, introducing a miso specialty ramen concept to Burnaby’s food scene.

The shop offered a range of carefully crafted miso-based ramen, with organic miso sourced from regions like Nagano and Miyagi in Japan.

The menu included favourites like the Aka Ramen, featuring red soybean paste, the Shiro Miso Ramen with a white soybean paste, and a vegetarian miso ramen with a creamy soy milk broth.

Gaoh’s dedication to the art of miso ramen earned it a loyal fan base over the years.

However, in an announcement on Instagram on November 12th, Ramen Gaoh shared that it will be shutting down at the end of the month.

The closure isn’t the end, but rather a transformation.

The Burnaby Heights location will be rebranded as Ramen Butcher, a concept that’s already a favourite in Chinatown for its Hakata-style tonkotsu ramen.

The rebranding will allow the team to refocus their offerings, pivoting from miso to tonkotsu, and the same staff will continue to serve the community.

In their message, the Ramen Gaoh team reflected on the challenges they’ve faced over the years, from burst frozen pipes to break-ins and the struggles of operating through the pandemic.

Rising operational costs and pressures were ultimately the reason for the transition.

The last day for Ramen Gaoh will be November 30th, and fans of the miso ramen will want to stop by before then for a final taste.

From December 1st onwards, Ramen Butcher will take over, bringing its signature Hakata-style tonkotsu ramen to the North Burnaby area.
