If you have ever squeezed into a hot pot session on Kingsway, you probably know Roadside Spicy Pot.
The Sichuan-style skewer restaurant in Burnaby has been a go-to for the past seven years.
Now, the team behind Roadside Spicy Pot has confirmed to Noms Magazine that the restaurant will be closing within the next two months.
The exact date is not shared.
In a post titled “The Last Dance,” the restaurant shared an emotional farewell on Instagram, writing that they will be closing this spring.
“For seven years, Roadside Spicy Pot has been more than a restaurant,” the announcement read.
“It has been a place for laughter, warmth, and memories.”
The restaurant also shared with Noms Magazine that the closure is tied to the economic downturn and high inflation.
It is a reality that many restaurant owners across Metro Vancouver are facing right now.
For those unfamiliar, Roadside Spicy Pot featured a concept about chuan chuan xiang, which translates roughly to “skewers in hot pot,” a beloved street food tradition from Chengdu.
The restaurant also stood out for its interior, which was designed to look like a 1970s and 80s Chengdu street scene, complete with retro murals and roadside stall-style decor.
In their announcement, the team asked fans to come back for one last meal, writing, “Before we say goodbye, we hope you’ll come back one more time, share a meal, a story, and a moment with us.”
Last year, we reported that the restaurant had been listed for sale, though it continued to operate.
Now, it appears the search for a new owner did not work out, and the team has decided to close.
For anyone looking to say goodbye, Roadside Spicy Pot is still open at 6462 Kingsway in Burnaby during regular hours.
