Back in January, we shared that Hafu, formerly known as Half & Half Fusion Cuisine, was planning to open Burnaby’s first dedicated cream mochi shop inside Crystal Mall.
Fast-forward to now, and Hafu has officially soft opened as of June 3.
Half & Half started back in March 2024 as an Asian fusion food brand operating out of a Vancouver commissary kitchen.
They became known for their innovative menu, featuring Mentaiko Chicken Soba, Unagi Truffle Risotto, Green Peppercorn Steak Soba, and more.
But what really put them on the map was their viral Jumbo Mango Pomelo Mochi—a soft, pillowy treat filled with mango and cream that quickly became a fan fave.
It stood out not only for the taste and size, it was also cutely created to look like a mango!
Now with their new storefront, Hafu has shifted their focus entirely to handmade cream mochis and fusion-style desserts.
Their new space at Crystal Mall is simple and cheerful.
The shop features a bright yellow accent wall with their logo front and center, a clean minimal counter setup, and playful decals like Pac-Man motifs on the walls, adding a whimsical, retro vibe.
On the menu, you’ll find a selection of stuffed cream mochis, which are available to purchase in sets of 4.
Flavours include Oreo, Durian, Matcha, Mango, and more.
Alongside their mochis, they’re also offering box cakes for those looking to try something beyond the chewy treats.
We stumbled upon their first day of soft opening, but during the evening.
By then most of their items had already sold out with only a few Oreo mochis and Mango Sago were left.
A good sign that word is already spreading fast.
While Crystal Mall has been seeing a lot of turnover lately with many retail storefronts closing, Hafu brings a fresh new addition to the changing mall scene.
