Just when you thought Metro Vancouver’s wave of restaurant closures might slow down—think again.
The latest gut-punch?
Punk Rock Pastries in Burnaby has just announced it’s shutting down later this year.
On January 28th, owner and head pastry chef Hollie Fraser—a two-time Food Network champion—shared the heartbreaking news in an Instagram video.
The exact closure date isn’t set yet, but Fraser mentioned it’ll likely happen by summer.
If you’ve ever wanted to experience this rebellious bakery’s over-the-top creations, now’s your chance.
Since opening in 2019, Punk Rock Pastries has been a bakery like no other—think shock-factor cakes, wild pastries, and adult-themed treats that are definitely NOT your grandma’s cookies.
Their work has been featured and winner of Food Network’s The Big Bake and Halloween Baking Championship.
This is thanks to Hollie’s next-level skills in 3D cakes, moving cakes, and custom sculpted designs.
They’ve even got a dedicated section for naughty, risqué pastries—yes, really—making them the go-to spot for bachelorette parties and birthdays with a sense of humor.
While the bakery has been a fixture on Hastings Street, the ongoing economic downturn and industry struggles have taken their toll.
When asked if she’d reopen elsewhere, Fraser joked that it would only happen if she won the lottery.
However, she reassured fans that she’ll keep making rad cakes and teaching after closing shop.
Punk Rock Pastries isn’t just about the cakes—it’s a whole experience.
Their social media showcases everything from horror-inspired desserts to hilariously explicit cookies, proving they’ve always been about pushing boundaries.
They even run a mobile coffee trailer, bringing their rock ‘n’ roll aesthetic and caffeine fixes to special events.
For anyone who’s ever said “I should check that place out someday,” someday is now.
Once they’re gone, there’s no telling if another bakery will ever fill the same gloriously chaotic, punk-fueled void.
So, if you want to grab one last outrageous treat before Punk Rock Pastries shuts its doors, now’s the time to make your way to their store.
