If you grew up chasing good Cantonese BBQ in Metro Vancouver, you know the feeling of spotting a familiar name on a new sign and stopping mid-step.
That is exactly what is happening right now outside Crystal Mall.
Roast Goose King BBQ (RGK) is getting ready to open a new location right beside Horin Ramen in the exterior strip.
We walked past recently and saw the signage is already up and the windows are uncovered.

This is a massive win for the neighbourhood because this isn’t just any BBQ joint.
It is actually the North American branch of a massive BBQ institution from China.
The brand was originally founded in Guangzhou in 1986 before expanding across Jiangmen and Kaiping, a region famous for its BBQ culture.
Their first Vancouver location on Victoria Drive opened in July 2019 and also expanded to Richmond’s Empire Centre.

While the name says “Roast Goose” (which is surprisingly rare to find done well in Vancouver), their expertise goes deeper.
They are famous for using a “green herbal” marinade for their roasts and are equally known for their Master Stock (Lu Shui) series, particularly the braised duck feet and wings.
Seeing this concept land at Crystal Mall feels like a natural fit.
It joins a food hub that is already a destination for serious Asian food, and adding a heavyweight Cantonese BBQ counter just completes the loop.
For now, we wait for the doors to open, which seems to be very soon.
This new Roast Goose King spot joins a growing list of new arrivals around Burnaby, including Malaysian Delights, No Frills, and Panda Pancakes.
