After a series of unfortunate closures to longtime beloved restaurants, Vancouverites can finally celebrate some good news, especially if you’re an animal lover.
This summer, Downtown Vancouver will welcome the first Capybara Cafe in North America, aptly named Capy B Cafe.
This charming spot promises an exciting experience for those who adore these friendly docile animals and want to spend time with them while indulging in delightful Capybara-themed desserts and drinks.
For the uninitiated, Capybaras are the world’s largest rodents, closely related to guinea pigs and rock cavies. They are cherished for their cute looks and laid-back personalities, often seen in viral TikTok videos relaxing in groups at an onsen or even perched on top of dangerous predators like alligators and hippos.
Native to savannas and dense forests, these gentle creatures thrive near bodies of water.
Capy B Cafe will offer guests a unique opportunity to enjoy a zen experience with over a dozen Capybaras in various themed rooms.
Imagine soaking in an onsen room, surrounded by these adorable creatures, while balancing a mandarin orange on your head and contemplating the deeper meanings of life.
Or, escape to the Safari room, where you can unwind amidst a grassy field with the Capybaras.
For those seeking a more traditional cafe setting, the coffee shop room provides the perfect environment for work or relaxation, with Capybaras mingling nearby.
In addition to its heartwarming atmosphere, Capy B Cafe features an enticing menu. Indulge in themed specialty coffee and tea, complete with a Capybara latte art drink crafted by an expert onsite barista.
Treat yourself to a refreshing Capybara shaved ice or a scrumptious chocolate mousse cake.
Where did the Capybaras come from?
The origin of the cafe’s Capybaras is a bit of a mystery. Owner Kyle Cap claims they appeared on his West End mansion’s lawn at 2 AM last month when there was a full moon, seemingly beamed down from an unidentified aircraft.
He quickly decided to create Capy B Cafe, a place for Vancouverites to lighten up and escape the city’s high housing prices while also providing these unexpected Capybaras a place to socialize and chill.
Capy B Cafe will be taking over a previous West End cafe unit close to Stanley Park. This prime location to nature and ample space are sure to delight locals and draw international attention, as North America eagerly awaits the opening of its first Capybara Cafe.
Sukmai Wong from the Vancouver Rocky Health told Noms Magazine that “Capy B Cafe is the effort from all levels of government to make Vancouver less of a “No Fun City” and expedited the cafe’s permits, which would usually take over a year to be issued.”
And thanks to Kyle Cap’s billionaire fortune from his crypto and real estate ventures, this dream for capybara lovers is becoming a reality.
The estimated date for Capy B Cafe’s opening is June 21st, the first day of Summer. We’ll keep you up to date on any more news we get about the cafe.

Yes this is an April Fool’s joke with various memes included. But it would be awesome if there was a capybara cafe here like in Taiwan and Japan. I suppose the cat and bunny cafes will have to do for now.
