From Gastown to Waterfront Views: New Catch 122 Brings Their Popular Brunch & Pastries To North Vancouver

Catch 122 has been the go-to destination for brunch in the Gastown neighbourhood for over a decade. However, the beloved food joint has recently relocated from downtown to the bustling Shipyards district of North Vancouver.

You may be like us wondering why they chose to leave and cross the waters.

To get some insight into this exciting move, we sat down with Tammy Siu, Co-owner of Catch 122, to learn more about their new location.

The Decision to Move

After a decade of success in Gastown, the team at Catch 122 decided to make a bold move and start fresh in a new city that will allow them to flourish.

We thought that it was time for a change.

We wanted to start over in a new space new neighbourhood that could allow us to grow as a business and expand our name so we believe this is a good change

Tammy said that the decision was not taken lightly, as they have built a loyal following since first opening in 2012.

When asked why The Shipyards district specifically, Tammy said it was an easy choice for the new location. That “the location, the view, the vibes always make us so happy whenever we come here. It’s a dream to be able to have our space in this neighbourhood and now, our dreams have come true.”

We have only been open for several weeks and we already feel this space is our home. So many people who live and work in the area came by to say hi and welcomed us.

We want to continue to be this local neighbourhood place where people feel good about coming to get food, pastries, coffee any time, and hang out and chat.

Despite moving locations, Catch 122 remains committed to serving its signature brunch menu that locals know and love. But that doesn’t mean they aren’t adding some new flare to accompany their new location.

Tthey have added some exciting new dishes that showcase unique flavours. Such as duck confit toast cooked for 36 hours, authentic Mexican huevos rancheros from their chef’s origin, vegan quinoa avocado toast, and seasonal French toast highlighting local fruits with Madagascan blue vanilla cream.

And if you’re a fan of their pastries listen up: the team has also significantly expanded its pastry selections!

Their team specializes in Viennoiserie-style pastries and Entremet cakes made daily on-site using seasonal local ingredients whenever possible.

Just like our brunch and coffee, our team cares very much about every detail of our pastries.

Every croissant is carefully laminated and rolled in this kitchen. Every entremet is carefully baked, cooled, layered, and glazed.

There’s a tremendous amount of detail that goes into each piece of pastry and cake.

You’ll find rotating and seasonal items like Ferrero Rocher Entremet, Paris Brest Hazelnut Éclair, Carrot Lemon Raspberry Entremet, Creme Brulee Cronut, Berry Mascarpone Croissant, Espresso Cremeux Chocolate Cruffin and more.

In addition to brunch offerings and pastries, Catch 122 is extending its opening hours from 8:30 am-5 pm on weekdays and from 9 am-5 pm on weekends.

Design Inspiration

When it came time for designing the new 2100 sq.ft space, the Catch 122 team went for a modern rustic concept and took inspiration from the nautical themes of the North Vancouver Wallace Shipyard redevelopment project.

For both the old space and the new space, we try to stay true to what our area and the original space has to offer.

This meant incorporating heavy-duty metal shelves reminiscent of ship-building materials along with ropes used as dividers between spaces within the restaurant.

To maintain the sentimental value of their original Gastown location, Catch 122 has brought over their hand-built wooden communal tables to their new space in North Vancouver. These tables not only hold a special place in the team’s hearts but also perfectly align with the modern yet rustic concept that they strive for.

One exciting addition to the new space is a rustic piano from 1978 that aspiring pianists are welcome to play during brunch.

Going beyond Brunch?

When it comes to Catch 122, brunch and pastries has always been the name of their game. Tammy confirmed that is still the main focus at their new location.

However, they also have plans to introduce happy hour and dinner options in the near future.

The team is currently working on designing their patio which they hope will be ready by Spring so that customers can enjoy the view of the water while sipping on their favourite beverages.

Overall, Catch 122’s new location in North Vancouver offers the same great quality brunch, pastries, and coffee that they were renowned for in their Gastown space. With plans to introduce happy hour and dinner options soon, as well as a beautiful patio with waterfront views, there’s even more reason to visit.

And don’t forget about the rustic piano from 1978 that adds a fun and unique touch to the dining experience.

If you’re in North Vancouver, we highly recommend stopping by Catch 122 for a delicious meal and warm hospitality that will make you feel right at home.
