Vancouver Chatime Gets Lease Terminated Over $63K in Unpaid Rent

It looks like one Chatime ran into some troubles.

While walking through the neighbourhood, we spotted a lease termination notice taped to the door of Chatime’s Kerrisdale location.

The document, issued by the landlord on September 8, details that the store’s lease has been officially terminated due to unpaid rent and associated costs.

According to the notice, the total amount owed by the tenant comes to a whopping $63,664.26.

The breakdown includes several key line items: unpaid rent for August and September totaling roughly $10,000, as well as an “Additional Rent Recovery” from previous years valued at over $25,000.

It also includes an adjusted cost of rent for the remainder of the months in 2025.

The remainder includes taxes, legal fees, and accelerated rent, bringing the full amount to over $63,000.

The letter states that the lease, which began in February 2021, is officially in default.

The landlord has elected to re-enter and take possession of the premises immediately, effectively ending operations at the location.

The Kerrisdale Chatime first opened in 2017, joining the wave of bubble tea chains expanding throughout Vancouver during the peak of the city’s milk tea craze.

Known for its customizable tea drinks, Chatime quickly became a familiar brand across Metro Vancouver, catering to both students and longtime fans of Taiwanese-style tea.

But with increasing rents and shifting consumer patterns in areas like Kerrisdale, where smaller cafes and boutique dessert shops are starting to replace chain locations, the closure may not come as a complete surprise.

The loss of Chatime marks another change in Kerrisdale’s food and beverage scene.

For fans of the brand, Chatime can still be found at several other locations across Metro Vancouver.
