Spotted: Longtime Chinatown BBQ Shop is Opening at Crystal Mall

Is Crystal Mall trying to corner the market on Chinese BBQ?

It certainly feels that way.

If you have been paying attention to the Kingsway strip lately, you know the BBQ scene here is getting crowded.

The mall already has two stalls holding it down inside the food court and by the escalators.

Then, Roast Goose King (RGK) just opened a store beside Horin Ramen this week, bringing another serious contender to the mall.

Now, it looks like another player is entering the arena.

We spotted a fresh “Opening Soon” banner for Money Food Ent.

They are taking over the unit formerly occupied by Sunshine Cafe, located right across from Yunshang Rice Noodle.

Money Food Ent is well-known for its no-nonsense operation in Chinatown’s Gore Avenue for the last 29 years.

It’s the OG spot where you grab a box of roast pork or duck if you’re in that area.

It creates a legitimate “BBQ Battle” within the mall.

You now have the specialty roast (RGK), the quick food court fix, and soon, the Chinatown staple (Money Foods) all within walking distance.

There is no official opening date posted for Money Foods yet.

But considering the signage is up and the unit has been empty since March, things seem to be moving.

It looks like the competition for the best BBQ in Burnaby is about to heat up.

Money Food Ent. Burnaby now joins a list of upcoming food spots in Burnaby like Matcha Tea Lab, No Frills Heights, and Panda Pancakes.
