New Chinese Sweet Dessert Soup Spot ‘Myth Dessert’ Soft Opens In Richmond

Back in March, we shared about a mysterious new dessert spot spotted a few doors down from Big Way Hot Pot in Richmond’s Ackroyd Plaza.

The only info that was available at that time was the signage with poetic musings about slow living, sweet memories, and rediscovering joy through desserts.

Well, we got word that it quietly soft opened on May 12th, and we went (anonymously as usual) to see what Myth Dessert & Patisserie is all about.

This spot is for anyone who’s into Chinese dessert soups, especially if you’ve been enjoying places like Dessert Artisanaux over on Kingsway.

If your idea of dessert involves peach gum, sago, or grass jelly, this one’s worth checking out.

The setup is modern and sleek, with three self-serve kiosks greeting you as you walk in.

You’ll place your order there before taking a seat in a minimalist interior filled with warm wood paneling, hanging greenery, and globe lighting that gives the whole space a serene, clean vibe.

Myth Dessert before opening

Think: soft cafe ambiance but tailored for post-dinner dessert sessions.

The menu is broken into four sections: Classic, Grand Slam, Build Your Own, and Patisserie.

Some Classic options

The Classic section features items like:

  • Peach gum with lotus seed and white fungus
  • Red bean paste with mochi
  • Mango sago cream with grapefruit
  • Steamed milk egg pudding
  • Pistachio paste with mochi

Most can be served hot or cold, depending on your preference.

If you’re craving something more indulgent, head for the Grand Slam lineup, which includes:

  • Myth Classic
  • Myth Taro
  • Myth Cassava
Grand Slam options

Each comes loaded with toppings and your choice of milk (from dairy to coconut or oat).

You can also request lower sugar levels if you want something a bit lighter.

Then there’s the Build Your Own option, which is a bit like malatang but for dessert, as one staff member told us.

You pick your base and choose from over 20 toppings at the counter, including durian, taro paste, Thai tea jelly, mango, sterculia gum, and more.

Each topping has its own price tag and listed on the self serve kiosk.

Finally, the Patisserie section offers a small selection of cakes sourced from Yudi Patisserie over on Alexandra Road.

For our visit, we tried the Peach Gum with Lotus Seed, the Myth Taro Grand Slam, and the pistachio paste with mochi.

The Myth Taro Grand Slam stood out with big chunks of taro, grass jelly, red bean, and smooth taro paste all swimming in coconut milk.

We opted for the less sweet version, and it hit that creamy-but-refreshing balance perfectly.

We were happy to see that all the items on the menu were under $10, which is a major win for Richmond folks.

Even right when it opened (5PM), the space was quickly filled with customers.

Staff were especially warm and eager to receive feedback, even offering some complimentary toppings from the Build Your Own station for guests to sample.

The staff also confirmed a few things for us:

  • Yes, this dessert spot is part of the same group as Myth Grill & Yakitori Bistro and Myth Szechuan Cuisine
  • Current hours are 5PM to 10PM, but they may shift to 12PM–late in the coming weeks

Myth Dessert now joins Little Pisces and Snackshot as the newest dessert openings in Richmond.

And it’s a promising sign that the city’s sweet scene is finally diversifying beyond bubble tea.
