It looks like the East Broadway area is losing one of its longtime comfort food staples.

A Noms Mag community member (@julio_eats) spotted a closure notice on the door of Hon’s Wonton House near Commercial Broadway Station.

The sign thanks customers for their years of support and shared memories, marking the end of a five-year run for this location.

Its last day of operation is October 19th.

Hon’s Wonton House is an OG name that most locals will recognize.

They first opened in Vancouver’s Chinatown in 1972 and quickly became known for their classic Cantonese comfort food like hand-wrapped wontons, tender beef brisket, and stir-fried noodles.

The restaurant’s menu brought together the comforting flavours of traditional Guangzhou wonton houses with locally sourced ingredients, all at prices that made it a go-to for casual diners.

Hon’s underwent a rebrand in 2018, introducing a more modern aesthetic and opening a newer location in Olympic Village while still keeping its traditional roots intact.

The East Broadway location, which opened in 2020, continued the momentum with an affordable menu featuring crowd favourites like wonton noodle soup, BBQ pork on rice, fried rice, and pan-fried chow mein.

Fortunately for fans, that Olympic Village outpost will remain open and continue to serve their signature wontons, potstickers, and rice plates.

The closure of the Broadway location adds to the growing list of Vancouver food spots that recently shut their doors, including Ole Restaurant on Robson, Little Cafe, and Remi Patisserie.
