Beloved Comfort Food Restaurant Forced To Close Its Vancouver Outpost After 10 Years Of Operation

Next time you walk around Olympic Village, you may notice a spot missing.

That’s because The Flying Pig’s Olympic Village outpost has served its final meal and quietly shut down.

The Flying Pig first opened in Olympic Village in 2014, servings its hearty West Coast comfort food.

The Flying Pig was more than just a quirky name; it symbolized the restaurant’s ethos.

The name touched on the idea of making the impossible happen, dreaming big, and continuously aiming higher.

The restaurant originally had a Gastown outpost as well, but it was part of a building demolition due to a devastating fire in 2022.

According to the closure announcement on its door, the last day of service was September 1st and thanked the community for the support after 10 years of operation.

The announcement ends off encouraging patrons to visit their remaining Yaletown location or their sister restaurant, Ophelia, next door.

According to a report by Dished, the restaurant was unable to nail down an adequate agreement with the landlord.

The number of food businesses that have shut down due to their lease has been plenty. And it has been the unfortunate pattern that has been closing many longtime restaurants in the city.

With the economy and the food industry in a terrible state – which has not recovered from the pandemic decimation – it is likely that more beloved food spots will shutter.
