Coquitlam’s longtime Deer Garden Restaurant is reported to be closing soon.
If you’re a Vancouver or Richmond local who had no idea there was a Deer Garden in Coquitlam, well, you’re not alone.
But more on that later.
The beloved HK-style restaurant first opened more than two decades ago, just a block from its current site at Henderson Place.
After relocating, the restaurant kept its welcoming vibe and steady following.
Now, it’s unfortunately preparing to close for good.
On Instagram, @itsgavin shared a heartfelt reel noting the Coquitlam family favourite is closing after roughly 20 years.
“As this beloved Coquitlam spot prepares to close its doors for good, let’s give it the heartfelt sendoff it deserves. Stop by, share a memory, savor your favorite dish one last time and help celebrate the legacy of a true local icon.”
No official date was mentioned at the time of posting, though the closure is expected toward the end of this year.
If you’ve only known Deer Garden for their noodles, this Coquitlam spot ran a broader Hong Kong café play with more than just noodle bowls.
Popular menu classics included Hainanese chicken, sweet and sour pork, and gai lan with beef.
By contrast, the Vancouver and Richmond locations operate as “Deer Garden Signatures,” the noodle chain many diners recognize.
In Richmond, the brand has also been busy with recent changes, relocating from Union Square to the Richmond Olympic Oval area in late 2024.
This spring, they branched into hot pot with a new spinoff, Deer One at One Park.
Plenty of Vancouver and Richmond locals never even realized Coquitlam had its own Deer Garden.
According to various online comments, the family that runs this Coquitlam Deer Garden differs from the one that runs the Deer Garden Signature restaurants.
This explains the slight difference in concept.
Although there is no specific date for when the restaurant will close, the word on the street is that it is near the end of the year.
