If you recently bought a bag of Kirkland Signature Basmati Rice, you might want to double-check the label.
A voluntary recall has been issued for Kirkland Signature Basmati Rice (Costco Item #289731), due to the possible presence of insects.

The recall was first highlighted in a Facebook post by Andy Shen, who shared a letter from Costco dated July 25, 2025, notifying customers of the issue.
According to the letter, the affected batches are numbered SS/01/25/5922 and SS/01/25/5923 and were sold between May and July 2025 at Costco warehouses in British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba.
Eastern Canada is not impacted by this recall.
If you have rice from one of the impacted batches, Costco is urging you not to consume it and instead return it to any Costco warehouse for a full refund.
While the letter didn’t specify what kind of insects were found, a Reddit thread has surfaced with several Western Canadian customers confirming they received calls from Costco regarding the recall.
Some even claimed they found bugs in their bags of rice, though this remains anecdotal.

The recall has understandably sparked concerns among shoppers, especially those who may have already used the rice in meals.
Costco’s customer service can be reached by phone or email, and the company has apologized for the inconvenience while asking members to share the notice with anyone who may have been given the rice.
