After making waves across the US, Din Tai Fung has officially launched its long-awaited Shaved Snow with Fresh Mango at the Vancouver location.
They invited us to check out their so-called #2-rated dessert to see what it’s all about.
According to the team, this is the restaurantโs first-ever cold dessert and first new menu item in years.
Since launching in the US this summer, itโs already become their #2 best-seller (just behind the Chocolate Mochi XLB).
This dessert is everything you want on a hot day: light, creamy, and refreshing without being overly sweet.
You know – sweet, but not too sweet.
The milk-based shaved snow melts softly in your mouth, like a cross between fresh snow and mousse.
Itโs crowned with juicy cubes of ripe mango, drizzled with Din Tai Fungโs signature sweet-and-tart mango sauce, and finished with a pour of creamy condensed milk.
Itโs also decently sized, which makes it perfect for sharing after all the dumplings and spicy wontons.
Though to be fair, you could easily crush one solo.
Considering that mango season is ending, we were curious whether this was a super-limited release.
But the DTF team shared that the dessert will be available all year round.
That’s because Din Tai Fung will be sourcing mangoes from different regions and suppliers around the world, so youโre always getting the best possible fruit in every bowl.
Makes sense considering their level of prestige.
And even though the Chocolate Mochi XLBs get all the hype (which is warranted), it is still a rather heavy dessert.
Whereas the shaved ice makes for a much lighter and slightly tart finisher, which we don’t doubt would be well enjoyed by the customer base at DTF.
