Dog lovers of Richmond…It’s finally your time to rejoice!
With multiple cat cafés and even a bunny café already in the city, dog enthusiasts were left with wagging tails and longing eyes.
But hold on, because that’s all about to change.
A Dog Cafe in a…Cat Cafe?
Dogopia is a one-day Dog Cafe event that sporadically appears a couple of times a month at Richmond’s Catopia, a tiny cat cafe by Minoru Blvd. According to our research, it has been quietly happening since June of last year.
Imagine an hour of sheer happiness, surrounded by various puppies and dogs.
For a fee of just $17/hr, the same as Catopia’s cat café fee, you get to plant yourself in a puppy paradise! And don’t worry about mandatory snacks or drinks; those are entirely optional, although the café does offer delightful treats for both humans and their furry companions.
A quick scroll through Catopia’s social media pages, and you’ll find glimpses of past Dogopia events. It is puppy galore with adorable pups like Maltese, Shiba Inu, Poms, and more in attendance.
But who owns these furballs?
According to Catopia, the puppies are not owned by the café but rather by the café owner’s friends. That makes sense considering these are one-day events.
This means that the type and number of dogs for each event will be different.
And sorry to disappoint, but you can’t bring your own pup along.
The latest Dogopia event just happened on August 5th, and if you missed it, don’t fret. A little birdie (or should we say, a little Maltese?) told us that the next Dogopia may be on Saturday, August 12th.
Although Dogopia isn’t a permanent dog café, it will no doubt be popular in the city.
You’ll want to mark your calendars, follow Catopia on Instagram or Xiaohongshu, to get word for the official announcement of the next Dogopia. When the time comes, a simple DM to Catopia will secure your spot in this furry fiesta.
