Gone Without a Goodbye: This Downtown Spot Closed Quietly After Less Than 2 Years

Vancouver has another abrupt closure to add to the growing list.

This time, it is Bar Haifa, the Palestinian-Israeli concept located at the lower floor Deloitte Summit building in Downtown Vancouver.

The restaurant, situated directly across from the Vancouver Library, was known for its seductive lighting and warm atmosphere.

It was an ambitious project from the team behind Toronto’s popular The Haifa Room.

They opened the doors back in November 2023, serving up hot takes on Middle Eastern cuisine in a lively open kitchen.

However, locals began noticing something was wrong late this summer.

The community spotted that the restaurant had quietly closed its doors around August.

There was no big farewell party or final announcement.

Instead, the “Temporarily Closed” tag appeared on Google, and their website and Resy page were suddenly deactivated.

Now, the final nail in the coffin has arrived.

It has been announced that a new Italian seafood restaurant called Osetra is taking over the very same unit.

The new spot is already up and running, marking the official end of the Bar Haifa era in Vancouver.

It is a tough loss for a city that embraced the unique concept of a Palestinian and Israeli team working together.

Bar Haifa now joins other recently closed Vancouver food spots like Mojo Cantina Izakaya and Chewies.
