Longtime Downtown Vancouver Japanese Restaurant Closes After 18 Years Of Operation

It’s a bittersweet moment for Vancouver sushi lovers as Ebisu Robson has officially closed its doors.

After nearly 20 years of serving up sushi and izakaya-style tapas, this Downtown Vancouver gem is now gone.

The spot announced on Instagram that its final day of operation was Saturday, September 14, 2024.

Ebisu first opened back in 2006 as part of the Kamei Group of Japanese restaurants and eventually separated as a standalone restaurant.

The restaurant was a popular spot for dinner and pre-clubbing for its bustling environment, large menu, and gigantic cocktail & sangria pitchers.

People often flocked for the happy hour specials (ahem 99 cent oysters) and the innovative presentation of their dishes like creative rolls set on a wooden bridge display.

In their farewell announcement, the owners expressed their gratitude for the years of support.

This closure follows the recent shutdown of their Richmond location, which had been serving the community for three decades.

A Japanese BBQ restaurant is rumoured to be taking over that Richmond unit.

While the Downtown space is now closed, it will be interesting to see what will be taking over.

Many longtime restaurants has shuttered recently in Vancouver and Ebisu will now be added to the list of names.
