Back in November 2024, we spotted Korean Chinese restaurant, JoongWon, all covered up and its Google listing tagged as “Temporarily Closed”.
With no update on its social media accounts, nor answers to our DMs – we brushed it off as another quiet closure that has been raging on in the city.
Well, after more than six months of silence, JoongWon has actually reopened its doors on Robson Street.
The restaurant first opened up in 2017, and it now returns with a refreshed interior and the same ownership.
Their menu still includes all the comforting faves: black bean jajang noodles, seafood jjamppong, and crispy sweet-and-sour pork (aka tangsuyuk).
What’s even better?
Their portion sizes are still huge and prices are impressively affordable.
At the time of our visit, they were running a beef jjamppong special for just $12.
We’re talking a generous bowl packed with noodles, tender beef, and spicy broth.
The owner mentioned it’s usually $20, so the deal felt like a steal.
We ended up staying a little longer thanks to the welcome AC on a hot day and decided to grab some extra takeout for dinner.
We picked up a mid-sized tangsuyuk and bulgogi deopbap.
Both were solid hits at the family table, especially that crispy tangsuyuk.
The menu features everything from stir-fried crystal noodles and signature jajang options to fried rice dishes and customizable jjamppong bowls. There’s even a fun little ordering sheet for those who like to build their own bowl from scratch.
Prices range from $13 to $26 depending on the dish and portion size, with most items falling right in the sweet spot of comfort and value.
JoongWon joins the list of recently opened food spots in Downtown Vancouver like Red Wasabi, Sai, COFU Chinatown.
