Downtown Vancouver Restaurant Announces Heartbreaking Closure After Just 6 Months

Sadly we have some more unfortunate news to share in the new year…

Ju Restaurant, the downtown Vancouver spot known for its unique blend of contemporary Korean flavours and French cooking techniques, has announced its upcoming closure.

In a heartfelt Instagram post shared on January 5th, the team expressed their gratitude for the community’s unwavering support, saying, “It was not a long journey for Ju, but it was enough time to be filled with your warmth and love.”

The restaurant opened just 6 months ago.

Opened in July 2024 by General Manager Young Shin, Ju took over the former Black Rice Izakaya space and promised an elevated experience with Michelin-trained Chef Step Suh at the helm.

The restaurant’s vision of intimate dining and bold culinary creations just unfortunately didn’t hit the mark to survive the tough food industry climate in Vancouver.

The team’s farewell message also acknowledged the community’s loyalty over the years, from their Black Rice Izakaya days to their latest venture.

They encouraged patrons to continue supporting local restaurants as they prepare to close their doors.

Ju’s last service will be on Sunday, January 19th, giving fans a final chance to enjoy the restaurant’s dishes before saying goodbye.
