Longtime Downtown Vancouver Starbucks Shuts Down After 16+ Years

If you’ve ever found yourself wandering through Tinseltown—arguably one of Vancouver’s most perplexing malls—you might have grabbed a coffee from the Starbucks on the corner.

Well, bad news for regulars.

As of February 14th, this location has officially closed for good after more than 16 years.

Tinseltown (or International Village, if you’re being fancy) is known for its odd mix of random shops, a food court, a movie theatre, and, let’s be honest, some seriously questionable vibes.

So it’s no huge surprise that keeping a business afloat in this area isn’t easy.

A Reddit user, Kooriki, spotted the closure announcement and shared it with the r/Vancouver subreddit.

What followed was a flood of stories from locals detailing the challenges of working or visiting the area—ranging from unsettling encounters to full-on drug-related incidents.

Many users even argued that workers at this area deserved hazard pay for what they had to deal with daily.

Many others noted how the Starbucks lasted longer than they expected.

While Starbucks has been a staple in this part of town for over a decade, it is surprising that the reason for the closure isn’t the struggles of operating in this neighbourhood, but simply that the lease has expired (as reported by Dished).

For those still craving their Starbucks fix, the closure notice suggests checking out nearby locations, including the ones at Waterfront Station, Loblaws City Market, and Quebec & 2nd.
