If you swung by the Killarney Shopping Centre recently looking for your usual order, you already know something is wrong.
The Starbucks at 2685 East 49th Avenue, tucked into the same plaza as 88 Supermarket, has permanently closed as of Feb 14, 2026.
Yep, a Valentine’s Day closure…
A sign on the door reads “Miss You Already,” directing customers to nearby locations at Champlain Mall, River District, 49th and Fraser, and Victoria Drive and 41st.
The interior has also already been completely gutted.
The signage has been pulled from the storefront, and peering through the glass, you can see nothing but an empty shell where the cafe used to be.
This location had been part of the Killarney neighbourhood for a long time.
The earliest Google Maps imagery showing the Starbucks here dates back to 2009, meaning it served the area for more than 15 years before going dark.
For a lot of residents in this pocket of East Vancouver, it was one of the few sit-down coffee options in the immediate area.
Starbucks has not publicly commented on why this specific location closed.
But it comes on the heels of a massive restructuring that has seen the company shut down hundreds of locations across North America.
In late September 2025, Starbucks closed roughly 68 stores across Canada in a single weekend, including 13 in British Columbia alone.
Metro Vancouver locations that went down in that wave included spots on Robson and Denman, at Bentall 4 downtown, and on Grandview Highway.
At the time, CEO Brian Niccol said the company was targeting stores that were “falling short of financial performance targets or failing to create the environment customers expect.”
The Killarney location does not appear to have been part of that September wave, which makes this a more recent and quieter closure.
Starbucks has said it plans to grow its store count in fiscal year 2026 and invest in upgrading more than 1,000 existing locations.
