The Best Places To Go For A Vegan Dessert & Treat In Vancouver During Lockdown

Are you vegan, or prefer vegan-friendly options and need a little pick-me-up?

Many local vegan hot spots are providing pick-up or delivery services so that people can still enjoy their happy treats that are healthful, fresh, and full of the flavour we cannot replicate at home. We are running through the list of some of Vancouver’s top Vegan eateries for desserts and treats. These are all open during the lockdown and offer either pick-up or delivery options.

1.) MeeT Restaurants

The dessert menu is actually worth checking out, even if the restaurant isn’t catered to just treats or sweet items. All options are gluten-free unless otherwise noted, and there are seven delicious desserts to choose from…if you can even decide.

Interestingly enough, most of Meet’s recipes were created by one of the owners whose husband is vegetarian but kids are not, so the recipes are all vegetarian but tested to be liked by even non-veg.

You can now order to pick up or get delivery via DoorDash (Yaletown/Main)

Locations:
-MeeT on MAIN: 4288 Main St, Vancouver, BC V5V 3P9
-MeeT in YALETOWN: 1165 Mainland St, Vancouver, BC V6B 5P2

2.) Juice Truck

Everything is plant-based, everything, so coming here for a treat or juice is easy. Although known for their cold-pressed juices and juice cleanses and smoothies, the Juice Truck actually creates a wide variety of treats such as the Almond Chocolate Cup, Peanut Butter Fudge, Cacao Coconut Bar, Green Energy Bar and more!

The Juice Truck is offering an online pop-up shop now, for limited time only, where you can shop various vegan items online and arrange for pick-up.

You can also order items through DoorDash regularly.

3.) Chickpea

At Chickpea, everything is plant-based, so completely vegan, with a Mediterranean inspiration. The dessert menu is incredible as a result. You can select from balaclavas (yes two different types), to carrot cake, a ganache torte, to a selection of Hello Sweets ice creams and more! What’s also great is that they are currently delivering hundreds of meals to frontline workers during this pandemic, and it’s possible through donations on their site.

You can currently order for pickup or delivery.

4.) Fairy Cakes

A small little bakery with a lot of great options to fill your vegan sweet tooth. Everything is organic, vegan, gluten-free, and nut-free, so you are fully covered on quality and clean eating. What’s great about this place is the beautiful custom cakes they make for any occasion, so if there is a reason to celebrate during this time, this is a great place to get a cake. Other items they are known for are the cupcakes and the famous “Fairy Buns.”

Currently available for pickup or delivery only, but orders must be placed in advance and over the phone, as the bakery is only producing items purchased.

A completely vegan and all natural bakery, who also provide options that are gluten-free, sugar-free or nut-free. Some items that are must-trys include their signature cinnamon rolls or orange-cranberry loaf (both baked daily), and the jam thumbprint cookie. They are also well known for creating cakes and cupcakes for occasion, and can even do one that is keto-friendly!

Currently providing delivery through DoorDash. While items are still being made daily, the menu may be different day to day, however they take custom orders if you would like something specific.

6.) The Gluten Free Epicurean

A 100% gluten-free and vegan friendly bakery, that has a lot going on, as they try to have most things available on days they are open, and if not are ready to take placed orders. It’s important to note that they are open on Wednesday, Fridays and Saturdays only for regular items (no bread), and on Thursdays only have bread, yes they are well known for amazing fresh breads, including baguettes, brioche and hamburger buns.

The treats are plentiful ranging from glazed yeast donuts, to the scone of the day, Boston creams, and madeleines, to name a few. To note is that you can also purchase cake mix, or flours and various sugars should you want to create at home.

Currently they are accepting walk-in pickups or placed order pick-ups.

If you want in Burnaby, Port Moody, Coquitlam and Port Coquitlam you can email elysegawley@gmail.com and arrange details before placing your order. If you want to donate a treat to a frontline worker, there is also an option to do that on the website.
