Bacayon’s Chibugan, a Filipino comfort food spot from Surrey, is getting ready to open a new “chibugan” spot on Kingsway in Burnaby.
We spotted their signage up at the former Hey I Am Yogost space on Kingsway near Metrotown.
If you live in Burnaby, you know the Metrotown area is stacked with chain restaurants, hot pot, sushi, and poke, but proper Filipino carinderia-style spots are still rare.

So when a neighbourhood favourite from Surrey decides to set up near Kingsway, it feels less like another opening and more like your friend finally moving closer to your side of town.
In Whalley, Bacayon’s Chibugan runs a small sit-down and take-out shop on 104 Avenue, where it has quietly collected around a 4.7 out of 5 rating on Google from more than a hundred reviews.

The Surrey menu reads like a full-on Filipino food trip.
You see sizzling sisig with egg on top, crispy kare kare built on lechon, bbq pork skewers, beef hocks, puto pandan, silog plates, and big noodle and party trays for family gatherings and potlucks.
Reviewers mention that even in a compact space, people happily squeeze in for trays of pancit, silog platters, and containers of dinuguan to bring home.

If you have ever wondered about the name, “chibugan” is Filipino slang for “time to eat,” and everyone crowds the table.
It is the word for birthdays that run late, unplanned merienda spreads, and those nights when rice and crispy pork take all your worries away.
For the Burnaby outpost, job listings describe Chibugan as a take-out only operation with a fast-paced kitchen, focused on smooth order-to-pickup flow rather than lingering table service.
So you can picture a compact counter, warm trays of food stacked behind glass, and foil containers heading out the door for condo dinners and park picnics more than long sit-down meals.
The location itself fits that grab-and-go life.

There is no official opening date yet, but signage is up, and hiring is underway, which usually means the fryers and rice cookers are not far behind.
Chibugan also joins other upcoming Burnaby spots we have recently spotted, including John 3:16 Malaysian Delights, and Vegas Donuts.
