Richmond’s Aberdeen Centre food court is about to welcome a tasty new tenant!
And it’s one that many locals and Filipino food fans will already know by name.
We spotted signage confirming that Max’s Restaurant, a beloved and long-established Filipino food brand, is opening a Max’s To Go concept inside the Richmond mall’s busy food court.

The new stall will be taking over the former Potato Corner space, which abruptly shut down earlier this spring, along with all other BC locations.
For those unfamiliar with Max’s, this iconic Filipino restaurant got its start all the way back in 1945.
It began as a humble café opened by Maximo Gimenez, a Stanford-educated teacher in Quezon City.
His home became a popular hangout for American soldiers stationed nearby, and eventually evolved into a full-blown restaurant known for its juicy, crispy chicken.
The legendary fried chicken recipe created by Maximo’s niece Ruby, soon became a national sensation, and the chain eventually grew into a global brand.
Now, Max’s operates over 180 locations in the Philippines, several in the Middle East, and 21 in North America- including its first Vancouver spot, which opened on Kingsway back in 2012.
This new “To Go” concept isn’t entirely new for the brand.
In the U.S., Max’s has launched a couple To Go locations offering a more compact menu suited for food courts or takeout-focused settings.
Richmond’s upcoming outpost will mark the first Max’s To Go in Canada.
While the menu will be more streamlined than its full-service counterpart, fans can still expect many of Max’s signature dishes.
If the concept follows the U.S. To Go menu, you’ll likely see hits like their Filipino Fried Chicken, Kare-Kare (beef peanut stew), Pancit Canton, Sinigang Na Baboy (tamarind pork soup), Lumpiang Shanghai (crispy egg rolls), and even halo-halo, the popular Filipino shaved ice dessert.
There’s no official opening date yet, but signs are already up, hinting that Richmond foodies won’t have to wait too long.
Max’s To Go now joins other upcoming Richmond food spots like Fruit Box, Hong Phat, and UTown Hot Pot.
