Michelin-Recognized Italian Restaurant To Open New North Shore Location

Get ready, foodies!

There’s a delicious twist coming to Lonsdale Quay Market, part of North Vancouver’s exciting revitalization.

Fiorino, a Michelin Bib Gourmand gem in Chinatown, is all set to open its second location.

If you’re a fan of Italian street food and cuisine, this news is like music to your ears!

Fiorino’s Tale of Passion

Fiorino’s story began in January 2013 with Giovanni (Gio) Mascagni.

Moving from Florence, Italy, to British Columbia, Gio yearned for a taste of home. He craved authentic Tuscan Schiacciata bread, a staple of his native Florence.

Unable to find it in Vancouver, he embarked on a mission to recreate this beloved bread.

Gio’s dream was to introduce this essential element of Italian life to Canada.

He even returned to Florence for a six-month apprenticeship with a renowned baker in the Mercato di Sant’Ambrogio to master the art of Tuscan bread-making.

The name ‘Fiorino’ pays homage to both the versatile Fiat Fiorino trucks of Italy and the historical Fiorino D’oro currency.

These trucks, known for navigating Florence’s narrow streets to deliver fresh goods, symbolize the dedication to providing fresh, authentic Italian fare.

Meanwhile, the Fiorino D’oro represents the dual concept of Fiorino: delectable schiacciata sandwiches by day and a vibrant aperitivo bar by night.

A Taste of Florence in North Vancouver

Fiorino’s new North Shore location, set to open in Fall 2024, will continue this legacy.

The space, previously occupied by the Cheshire Cheese Restaurant (which closed in 2022 after an impressive 36-year run) and an adjacent dance studio, is triple the size of the original Chinatown location.

It will have waterfront views, a large outdoor patio, and a unique wine cellar dining area.

Staying true to its roots, Fiorino’s menu at the North Shore will feature its classic, seasonal dishes that current Vancouverites know and love.

The official opening date is yet to be announced but people in North Vancouver should be excited to get a taste of Florence in the city soon!
