Richmond’s Union Square Shopping Centre, also known as the “bubble tea plaza,” continues to evolve as yet another brand enters the battle.
Last week we reported the closures of both Machi Machi and Yifang in the plaza, leaving locals speculating about who would take over these spots.
Well now we know who is taking over one of them!
SWEET7, the global tea drink brand that made their North American debut in Downtown Vancouver in January 2024, has now announced its first Richmond outpost at the plaza.
SWEET7 shared on their Chinese social media on Oct. 5th that they are set to open in Union Square at the previous Yifang unit this Winter.
SWEET7 is not a new challenger to dismiss.
Established in 2006, SWEET7 has built a reputation for creating fresh mango drinks and fruit teas, a feat that has earned them substantial locations with over 1500 branches globally.
Their commitment to using fresh fruit and pure ingredients without artificial colors or flavours has made them stand out in the ever-competitive bubble tea scene.
This Richmond location is bound to be an exciting addition, especially with its proximity to another bubble tea heavyweight, MACU Tea, which has been dominating the plaza with their own popular mango offerings.
SWEET7’s extensive menu of mango-based drinks, including varieties like the mango yogurt, mango sago with coconut milk, and mango pomelo sago with soft serve.
The announcement has already generated plenty of interest, with locals expressing their excitement about not having to make the long trek to Downtown Vancouver to enjoy SWEET7’s mango sago drinks anymore.
With Union Square continuing to live up to its nickname as the “bubble tea plaza,” SWEET7 will soon join upcoming Chayan and HeyTea, in the battle for bubble tea supremacy.
As SWEET7 prepares to open this Winter, the question remains: who will take over the Machi Machi unit?
