If you live in Kitsilano, you know that the grocery situation on West 4th has always been a bit… lacking.

But that just changed in a big way.

Fresh St. Market has officially opened its doors at the corner of West 4th and Macdonald, and it is a massive upgrade for the neighbourhood’s weekly routine.

We first spotted signs for the store months ago, tucked into the ground floor of the new Kitsilano Block development.

While the wait felt long, the doors are officially open (as of December 12) for your morning coffee run or post-work shop.

This marks the brand’s second Vancouver location (the first is at Vancouver House), finally giving West Side residents a spot to grab their goods without battling downtown traffic.

This isn’t just a place to buy milk. The biggest draw for this specific location is the ready-to-eat section.

This store features the largest hot bar Fresh St. Market has built to date. Designed for the busy Kits crowd, it includes:

  • A full carvery station.
  • A burrito bar.
  • Freshly made sushi.
  • A deep lineup of grab-and-go meals.

If you are cooking at home, the shelves lean heavily into the “local farmers market” vibe. Instead of generic brands, you will find a “Who’s Who” of BC producers.

Familiar names like Fraser Valley, Oyama Sausage Co., Two Rivers Meats, and Chop N Block.

You can’t talk about Fresh St. without mentioning the bakery. Alongside coffee from Whistler’s Forecast Coffee, they are serving their famous rotating Peak Donuts.

Yes, that includes flavours like the Custard King, Strawberry Pistachio, and Crème Brulé.

The store has also launched with sustainability in mind, utilizing FoodMesh to redirect surplus food to local charities and offering a “Borrow a Bag” refundable deposit system.

The store is open daily and is located right in the heart of the new Kitsilano Block.

A larger grand opening celebration is planned for January 16, but the shelves are fully stocked right now.

Fresh St. Market Kitsilano joins other newly opened stores and restaurants across Vancouver, along with Baking Factory, Slo Coffee, and Goldie’s Donut & Bakery.
