It’s official—Cottage Deli has permanently closed its doors.
This leaves Gastown with one less cozy, homey spot to grab a bite and enjoy some killer views.
Back in October 2024, we shared the bittersweet news that this beloved community staple was preparing to close after an impressive 25 years of operation.
At the time, there was no set closure date, but the writing was on the wall.
Or, more accurately, on the Instagram post shared by the Gastown BIA, which revealed that the mall where Cottage Deli was located would be redeveloped.
Fast forward to now, where we walked by the mall on January 21st and found the gate is officially shut for good.
A sign attached to the gate confirms what we all hoped wouldn’t come so soon: Cottage Deli has permanently closed.
It’s the end of an era for those who loved the cozy, cottage-inspired decor, the hearty homemade soups, and their Reuben sandwiches.
For over two decades, cousins Carlos and Peter ran the Deli, turning it into a hiden lunch spot.
It was also a place where you could look out at panoramic views of the North Shore mountains, Canada Place, and even spot the occasional train or cruise ship coming into Waterfront.
It was a gem that offered some seriously good old-fashioned hospitality.
If you were lucky enough to snag a bowl of soup or a sandwich here, you’ll know why it holds a special place in the hearts of Vancouverites and visitors alike.
The kind of place that wasn’t flashy but always hit the spot.
Here’s to hoping the cousins are off enjoying a well-deserved rest.
