Yaletown, get ready to welcome a new Korean supermarket to the hood!
Hannam Supermarket, pioneers of the Korean supermarket scene in Western Canada, is set to open its new express location this week.
This new express location is taking over the space previously occupied by Swirl Wine Store for over 17 years.
Hannam Supermarket: A Storied Beginning
Established in 1998, Hannam Supermarket started as the first large-scale Korean mart in Western Canada.
It brought a fresh Korean vibe to North Road Mall and sparked the birth of a new K-town.
This flagship store in Burnaby, along with its other locations, has not only been a haven for Korean groceries but also a catalyst for over 200 Korean businesses in the area.
The Yaletown Express Experience
The newest member of the Hannam family, the Yaletown Express store, is set to continue this legacy.
This location – although incredibly smaller than others – promises a variety of specialized Korean food and lifestyle products.
You’ll find various Korean goods, including grocery staples, snacks, ramen noodles, bottled drinks, ice cream, and household appliances.
And like their other locations, you’ll find weekly and specific weekend sales on a variety of items.
You can consider this the mini-mart version of their regular humongous stores.
A staff preparing for the opening of the Express store did tell Noms Magazine that they will be soft opening this Friday, January 5th.
From our quick glance inside the store, it does not have the viral Korean drink packets seen in Korean convenience stores.
Fans will have to keep waiting until someone (aside from Costco with the Hazelnut latte packets) decides to bring those over.
Although there is already a convenience store across from Yaletown Canada Line Station and a Choices Market 2 blocks up the road, those who have a more Asian palette will love the arrival of Hannam Supermarket’s Express store.
