Japanese Style French Croissant Chain ‘Hazukido’ To Open First Richmond Location

Certain spots around the city are known among locals as challenging for businesses, with frequent turnovers despite their convenient locations.

One spot being at the entrance of Richmond’s Aberdeen Centre Mall, which has seen at least 5 different restaurants attempt to make it work in the last 6 years.

Well, it looks like the latest to rise to the challenge to break the curse is Hazukido, the Taiwanese chain known for its Japanese-style French croissants.

Hazukido is not just any croissant outlet; it is an embodiment of the Japanese Shokunin spirit, which emphasizes dedication to craftsmanship.

The brand prides itself on using only the finest ingredients (like Japanese flour and French butter) and its exclusive folding technique, which ensures each croissant has a classic honeycomb texture. This means you’ll get a golden crunch and buttery aroma with every bite.

They also are known for more unique flavours for their croissants like Truffle Crab, Salted Egg Yolk, Fresh Strawberry Custard and more.

As of late, Hazukido’s aggressive expansion – particularly in Ontario – now boasts 13 locations within Canada.

Back in October 2022, the brand opened its first BC location in Yaletown.

The upcoming Richmond outlet will make it their second in the province. However, there seems to be a discrepancy as their Canadian website lists a different address for the Richmond outlet.

This could imply that either the initial location plans changed, or there might be two separate Hazukido ventures in Richmond.

Hazukido “Cafe Plus”?

The coming soon sign at the new Aberdeen Centre location also teases a “Cafe Plus” concept, a deviation from Hazukido’s standard format.

Hazukido has informed Noms Magazine that the Cafe Plus “will have elevated menu items that differ from our existing locations and will be your new favourite lunch & social spot!”

As Hazukido prepares to open its doors in Aberdeen Centre, there’s a palpable sense of anticipation. Will this be the business that finally turns the tide for this notoriously challenging spot?

Only time will tell, but if Hazukido’s track record is anything to go by, there’s every reason to be optimistic.
