Richmond’s food scene is buzzing with new spots popping up and old spots closing down everywhere.
Amidst this flurry of activity, we noticed another shop has quietly closed its doors.
SweetHoney Dessert, located at the plaza beside Aberdeen Centre, has quietly shuttered, leaving fans of Hong Kong desserts with one less option.
SweetHoney Dessert is a Hong Kong dessert chain with over a dozen locations across North America.
At its peak, it had three locations in BC alone, but its reviews were really mixed.
The Richmond outpost, which opened back in 2018, featured a variety of Hong Kong desserts like Mango Sago, Durian Mochi, Black Sesame Walnut Soup, Tofu Pudding, and various drinks.
All the items came in the iconic yellow containers.
The café also got some buzz before for its hyper-realistic cakes shaped like puppies but were actually mousse, which went viral for how realistic they looked.
The space was large, well-decorated, and stayed open late, making it a popular spot for late-night dessert cravings.
However, as we discovered online, the Richmond location closed around late June 2024.
In its place, a new restaurant called Bliss Kitchen has already taken over the unit, though details about the new spot are still scarce.
