Highly Rated Japanese Ramen Shop ‘Horin Ramen’ Soft Opens Its New Burnaby Outpost

Burnaby ramen lovers, the wait is over!

Horin, the Japanese ramen shop that first opened on Robson Street, has officially soft-opened its second BC location at Crystal Mall.

After teasing us with signage back in November 2023, the highly anticipated ramen spot is now ready to serve its famous bowls of tonkotsu ramen.

Horin Ramen’s story began over 50 years ago in Ogori, Fukuoka Prefecture, Japan.

It was the first ramen restaurant in Japan to introduce chili peppers into the classic tonkotsu ramen, earning its place as the birthplace of chili ramen.

However, after overwhelming success, the original location closed when the founder fell ill.

Fast forward a decade, and Horin Ramen re-emerged, continuing the founder’s legacy of innovative ramen making.

At Horin, the broth and tare sauce are made fresh daily, with adjustments to ensure the flavours align with the seasons and even weather conditions.

The result is a light yet rich tonkotsu broth, meant to be enjoyed by ramen lovers of all ages.

The ultra-fine noodles are the product of extensive research into texture and taste, ensuring they perfectly complement the broth and provide a satisfying experience with every bite.

Like Ramen Danbo, you’re able to customize your bowl of noodles to your liking.

From the noodle firmness to the broth richness to the amount of chilli and even whether you want your chasiu flame seared.

The new Burnaby location brings Horin’s signature ramen right to Metrotown’s bustling food scene.

Inside, you’ll find a minimalist, modern design with soft grey tones and wooden accents.

The seating is simple yet comfortable, with cushioned benches and wooden chairs.

Warm lighting and a bamboo-themed mural add a cozy yet elegant touch, creating a welcoming vibe for diners.

During their soft opening, expect a few growing pains—service may be slower, seating is more limited, and takeout orders aren’t being accepted just yet.

But for those who can’t wait to try their famous ramen, it’s worth a visit.

The Metrotown area has been growing into a hotspot for food enthusiasts, with recent openings like MACU Tea’s first Burnaby branch and upcoming spots like Galbi KBBQ and HeiHei Rice Roll.

Horin Ramen is yet another exciting addition to the neighborhood’s food scene.
