We’ve got some great news for fans of Japanese-inspired breads!
Pointage Bakery is making a comeback!
After disappearing from the scene in 2021 to take a break and work on their first retail location, we’ve spotted signage for the bakery in Richmond.
For those unfamiliar with Pointage, Vivian started the bakery by operating out of a commissary kitchen in Vancouver in 2020, serving up delicious breads with a Japanese twist.
She received her training in French Boulangerie from Le Cordon Bleu, a world-renowned pastry school, on their Japan campus.
The name Pointage comes from the French word for fermentation, which is central to their bread-making process.
Their menu features delicious items like pillowy soft sourdough shokupan, charcoal & sesame sea salt bread, red bean + butter bagel, and the matcha soft bun.
Every loaf is handmade with wholesome ingredients, freshly baked on the morning, and crafted with a reduced amount of sweeteners and fat.
The buzz around Pointage’s Richmond location first started back in November 2022, when signage was spotted at a former Suki’s Hair Salon unit across from Richmond Public Centre.
But after the signage was taken down and no progress was seen for over a year, many wondered if the bakery would ever open.
Well, the wait is almost over.
We recently spotted new signage going up, signaling that the Richmond location is still a go.
While no official opening date has been confirmed yet, renovations on the lower floor were completed in September 2023, and it’s likely that the delay was due to permit issues with the City of Richmond—a common hurdle for food businesses.
Noms Magazine has reached out to Pointage Bakery for more details but has yet to hear back.
In the meantime, Richmond locals can get excited about this long-awaited addition to the city’s bakery scene.
