If you’re a fan of Japanese snacks, we’ve got some sad news.
Daruma is shutting down both of its Richmond locations by the end of February.
Our Noms Mag community member @Eatswitheva first spotted the closure notice at the Union Plaza store, and the brand later shared on their Chinese social media that their Steveston location is also shutting down.
That means two fewer spots to grab those hard-to-find Japanese treats.
Daruma first launched in 2022 at Union Square Plaza, quickly becoming a go-to spot for everything from Tokyo Banana to Shizuoka honeydew melons.
They expanded fast, opening at PARQ Casino and in Steveston in 2023.
Their biggest move came when they launched a massive 3,000 sq.ft store at Tsawwassen Mills, which will remain open alongside their PARQ Casino location.
The store was known for its unique mix of Japanese snacks, ranging from cheese desserts and Tamago Honpo chocolate eggs to flower butter cookies and premium Japanese fruit.
Some were common, while others nearly impossible to find elsewhere in Metro Vancouver.
According to the closure notice, the shutdowns are due to “business development needs”.
For those looking to stock up before it’s too late, both Richmond locations are running a 30% OFF clearance sale until the end of February.
The catch? It’s cash only, and special offer items are excluded.
