A local Kelowna food truck owner just went through a bizarre nightmare, and it all unfolded in front of his eyes.

According to the report by Global News, on what should have been a regular Sunday evening in Kelowna, the owner of Chef de Cuisine food truck, says his car was stolen right in front of him.

Chef de Cuisine, which opened in 2024, has been earning a reputation in Kelowna for its halal, Asian, Middle Eastern, and Western-inspired dishes served from a mobile kitchen.

The wild part?

The alleged thief had just been a customer minutes earlier.

While busy serving up dishes like beef liver singara and mixed grill skewers, he glanced up to see his vehicle suddenly driving off – with someone else behind the wheel.

His car was parked just several metres away from his food truck.

Inside the car were his belongings, like a laptop, wallet, credit cards, and more.

By the time he realized what was happening, the car was already down the driveway.

Despite trying to give chase with help from a nearby store employee, the thief got away.

Later that night, a debit card transaction notification gave the first clue to the suspect’s whereabouts: a $470 shopping spree in Kelowna’s Rutland area using not only the owner’s card, but also his wife’s.

The business owner admitted his mistake that his car keys had been left inside, but never thought it would cost him so much.

This fiasco forced him to shut down the food truck temporarily, missing out on a full day of revenue and service.

The RCMP is currently investigating the theft, but for this small business owner, the damage is already done.
