It looks like Kerrisdale has lost a neighbourhood favourite.

Jiu Jiang Japanese Restaurant has officially shut down after eight years of serving quality Japanese fare to the local community.

A Noms Mag community member recently spotted a notice posted on the restaurant’s door confirming that their final day of service was May 28, 2025.

According to the note, the closure was due to the expiration of their lease, with the team expressing deep appreciation for their customers’ loyalty and support over the years.

They called it a privilege to serve the community and hoped to return in the future.

Jiu Jiang first opened in 2016 and slowly carved out a reputation as one of Kerrisdale’s hidden gems – unassuming in ambiance, but beloved for its generous portions, fair prices, and quality sashimi.

The restaurant offered a classic Japanese menu of sushi, sashimi, tempura, bento boxes, and unique seasonal items like monkfish liver and bluefin tuna.

Their assorted sashimi sets, often served with miso soup, rolls, and other side dishes, were a go-to for regulars looking for a satisfying, well-priced meal.

Jiu Jiang wasn’t flashy, but it was reliable.

Reviews frequently highlighted the freshness of the fish, the warm and friendly staff, and the overall value for money, especially when compared to flashier sushi bars in the city.

While some may have passed by without noticing it, those who found it often returned again and again.

With its quiet exit, Jiu Jiang now joins the growing list of longtime neighbourhood staples that have shuttered in recent months: Zefferelli’s, Pizzeria Farina, and Mckim Wonton Mein Saga, to name a few.
