Sometimes a closure hits harder when you know the person behind the counter gave everything they had.
Oh My Toast, the Korean street toast cafe on Kingsway near Joyce-Collingwood, has permanently closed.
The owner shared the news on Instagram on December 10, writing that they were “unfortunately closing the store due to shoulder injuries and personal reasons.”
The last day was December 21, with the cafe operating for one final service.
The post ended with a simple message: “I am very grateful for fantastic customers and hope for the best.”

The little cafe first opened around June 2023, quietly taking over the former Hyoga Japanese Cuisine space.
It quickly carved out a niche as one of the more affordable spots on that stretch of Kingsway, with almost everything on the menu priced under $10.
The egg toasts were the main draw.
You could get the classic version loaded with egg, ham, cheese, cabbage, and house sauce for $6, or go with something more adventurous like the truffle, hawaiian luau, avocado, or prawn options.

Then there were the croffles, the hybrid croissant-waffles that have become a fixture of Korean cafe culture over the past few years.
If you wanted a quick, affordable Korean-inspired snack between errands, this was the place.
Losing a spot like this, especially when the reason comes down to something as human as an injury, is a reminder that many of these small restaurants are typically one-person or family-run operations held together by sheer determination.
Oh My Toast joins other recently closed food spots in Vancouver like Rori Momo, Kokoro Mazesoba Kitsilano, and Barra Gitano.
