Two of the most beloved fast foods in North America just got combined into one, and a Kitsilano institution is behind it.
Nat’s New York Pizzeria on West Broadway has launched a smash burger pizza as its new special, and the internet is having a field day with it.
“For the first time in Vancouver… Smash Burger Pizza is here. Launching March 1st as our new Special,” the announcement on the @nats.newyorkpizzeria Instagram page reads.
We stopped by (anonymously as usual) to try a slice for ourselves.
The pizza takes everything you would expect from a smash burger and puts it on a New York-style crust.
There is smashed beef patty, crispy bacon, a blend of cheddar and mozzarella as the base cheese, and American cheese melted on top.
It is finished with pickles.
It looks like a regular Nat’s jumbo slice until you take a bite and taste the unmistakable flavour of a smash burger coming through.
This will no doubt give you a food coma!
The comments section under the announcement post has turned into a small battleground. One commenter wrote, “DID YOU JUST SAY THE PIZZA IS CALLED BURGER !!!”
Another said, “Omg I am coming tomorrow for a slice.”
Some longtime fans are divided over the American cheese.
One commenter wrote, “Looked all good till they put fake cheese on it.” Nat’s responded directly, clarifying that the base is cheddar and mozzarella with American cheese only on the top.
For those unfamiliar, Nat’s New York Pizzeria is a Kitsilano staple for over 30 years and is known for its oversized New York-style slices.
The shop sits on West Broadway with classic checkered black and white tiles, bar seating along the window, and walls covered in framed photos and local memorabilia.
A sign inside reads “Fuelling the Blue Demons Since the late 1900’s,” a nod to the shop’s long connection with Kitsilano High School.

The smash burger pizza is available now as a lunchtime special at the shop.
