Richmond’s go-to spot for Korean rice hot dogs is officially making a comeback.

After a chaotic exit that involved a car crash and a year of radio silence, Chung Chun Rice Hot Dog is finally returning to the city.

You likely remember the bizarre end of their previous location.

The brand held a prime spot on the corner of No. 3 Road and Westminster Highway until a Tesla unfortunately drove through the front entrance.

The shop closed for repairs, and for over a year, locals watched the renovations hoping for a reopening.

However, that hope faded recently when the unit was sold and confirmed to be transforming into a new outpost for Shawarma 2 Go Grill.

But it looks like the brand wasn’t done with Richmond yet.

Thanks to a tip from Noms Magazine community members (@albert.kim.275 & @rosefoodiefinds), it’s confirmed that Chung Chun has secured a new home.

“Coming Soon” signage has appeared in the windows of a unit located at the Paramount Development directly across from Richmond Centre, right beside Miion Cafe.

If you aren’t familiar with the name, this isn’t just a small local fry shop.

Chung Chun is a massive heavyweight in the Korean street food scene.

Founded in Seoul in 2017, the chain has exploded to over 200 locations worldwide, including outposts in Japan, Vietnam, and the U.S.

Their secret isn’t just the wild toppings like ramen noodles or diced potatoes.

Unlike traditional flour-based batters, they use a glutinous rice flour blend that is fermented for two hours every morning.

This is what gives their hot dogs that signature soft and chewy texture that you can’t really find anywhere else.

In Metro Vancouver, they currently have locations in Downtown, Burnaby and New Westminster.

While there is no official opening date announced, the posters are loud and clear.

Chung Chun now joins a wave of upcoming Richmond food spots, including Baking Factory and Stone & Flow.

We will keep you posted as soon as they announce a grand opening date.
