Another Vancouver food scene gem is bowing out, as Jamjar Canteen prepares to close its Shipyards location on May 6.

After nearly five years, this beloved spot in North Vancouver is shuttering its doors for good.

The news marks another loss for local culinary scene, where restaurant closures have been increasingly common.

Jamjar Canteen opened its third location at the Shipyards in 2019, right before the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Lebanese-inspired eatery quickly gained a loyal following for its vibrant Mediterranean fare, from mezze platters to shawarma wraps.

The Shipyards location maintained this signature lineup, giving the North Vancouver community a taste of Lebanese culture.

However, despite its warm reception, Jamjar Canteen announced via Instagram on May 1st that “a combination of mistakes we’ve made and a very challenging environment has led to this” decision to close.

In its closing statement, the restaurant emphasized its gratitude for the support received and reassured patrons that they can still enjoy their favourite dishes at the remaining Commercial Drive and UBC locations.
