Another food spot on the UBC campus is gone.

Jamjar Canteen has permanently closed its University Boulevard location, leaving a hole in the dining options for students who relied on the Lebanese spot for their go-to bowls, wraps, and falafel.

The closure was first shared by alsosayyam, a UBC student on Instagram on February 26, warning others to get their last order in before it shut down the following day.

The post racked up over 1,100 likes and the comments were filled with devastated reactions.

“This was my GOAT,” one student wrote.

“Please say it isn’t true,” another commented, followed by crying emojis.

“WHYYYYYYYYY,” read another.

The closure has since been confirmed on Jamjar Canteen’s official website, which now reads, “Our UBC location is now permanently closed, please visit us at Commercial Dr.”

Jamjar Canteen opened its UBC location at University Boulevard and quickly became a campus staple.

The fast-casual spot let students build their own bowls or wraps with a base of brown rice, wrap, or cabbage, then load up on proteins like chicken shawarma, lamb sausage, yogurt-braised chicken, or fried cauliflower.

No official reason has been given for the closure.

The restaurant did not post any announcement on its own social media channels.

Jamjar was founded by Fadi Eid back in 2014 and is known for its fresh, Lebanese-inspired food made with local ingredients.

The brand started on Commercial Drive before expanding to multiple locations across Metro Vancouver.

But this is not the first time Jamjar has scaled back.

The brand previously closed its North Vancouver location in the Shipyards District back in May 2024, which means the company has now lost two of its three locations in under two years.

That leaves the Commercial Drive location as the last remaining Jamjar outpost.

With the UBC closure, Commercial Drive is now the only place to get Jamjar’s food.

Jamjar Canteen UBC now joins other recently closed food spots in Vancouver like Gringo, Hundy, and Rice Burger.
