Back in April, we shared the bittersweet news that The Arbor, the beloved sister restaurant of award-winning The Acorn, had closed its doors after 7.5 years.
But as one door closes, another opens.
Taking its place is Lila, a modern sustainable Indian dining concept that promises to bring a fresh, vibrant energy to Main Street.
The origin story of Lila is a heartwarming tale of friendship and collaboration.
Shira Astra, co-founder of The Acorn, first met Meeru Dhalwala in 2010 during a photo shoot at Vij’s. This chance encounter blossomed into a meaningful friendship, with Meeru often dining at The Acorn with her kids and sharing her wisdom and experience with Shira over coffee and conference road trips.
When The Arbor was nearing the end of its lease and Meeru was wrapping up her time at Vij’s, the timing felt perfect for a new joint venture.
Enter Lila, named after the Sanskrit word for “playful and divine drama.”
This new eatery aims to tell stories through its space, menu, and hospitality.
Lila soft-opened last week for walk-ins and is officially opening on Thursday, May 23rd.
Unlike the casual bright ambiance of The Arbor, Lila features a darker palette and a more modern aesthetic, with touches of green garden vibes.
Fans of The Arbor will be pleased to know that Lila also offers plenty of gluten-free options (almost the entire menu is GF).
Lila’s menu is a delightful mix of modern Indian dishes.
Expect to find spiced beets with creamy fenugreek chutney and candied walnuts, paneer “truffles” in mustard seed curry, and halloumi cheese and peas in a seven-spice béchamel curry.
There’s also marinated and seared Arctic char on creamy basmati “risotto” with mango-mint chutney, among other tantalizing creations.
The hidden patio at the back hasn’t gone anywhere and is perfect for enjoying a sunny day.
This collaboration between Shira and Meeru brings a new dimension to Main Street’s culinary scene, blending tradition with innovation in a space designed to bring people together.
Be sure to check out Lila and share the news with your friends—it’s a dining experience you won’t want to miss.
