One of Richmond’s OG izakayas has served its last plate of robata skewers after more than two decades on Alexandra Road.

Manzo Izakaya has closed its doors on March 12, 2026, ending a 26-year run in the city.

A Noms Mag community member (Cheery) shared the restaurant’s Instagram story announcing the closure.

We also spotted the farewell notice posted on the restaurant’s front door.

“After 26 wonderful years filled with laughter, friendship, and unforgettable memories, Manzo Izakaya on Alexandra Road, will be closing its doors on March 12, 2026,” the notice reads.

The message goes on to thank every guest who dined there over the years.

“Your support, trust, and companionship have made this journey truly meaningful, and it has been our greatest honor to serve you.”

For longtime Richmond locals, Manzo Izakaya was one of the city’s earliest dedicated izakaya spots, opening around the year 2000 when the dining scene on Alexandra Road looked very different from what it is today.

The restaurant was known for its modern Japanese cuisine and signature robata skewers.

It was a go-to late-night gathering spot for friends and families in the neighbourhood.

The farewell notice does point to a silver lining.

Manzo Izakaya’s sister restaurant, Manzo Itamae, will remain open at Capstan Way.

The notice invites guests to continue the experience there.

The closure comes as the Alexandra Road continues to see turnover.

Just earlier this month, Little Karp and Seto Sushi also shut down.

Manzo Izakaya now joins other recently closed food spots in Richmond like MACU Tea, Seto Sushi, and My Coffee.
