Richmond has lost another longtime spot along Alexandra Street.
Chengdu Spicy Restaurant has officially shut its doors, with a note posted on the entrance confirming the permanent closure and thanking customers for their support over the years.

The restaurant first opened in 2015, offering a wide array of Sichuan dishes.
For a time, Chengdu Spicy also operated a Burnaby location along Kingsway, though that outpost quietly closed in 2020.
On the menu, guests could find everything from shredded pork with chili garlic sauce and spicy pork belly to cumin beef, lamb hot pots, and Chengdu-style maocai.
Seafood options like chili fish slices, spicy hot sturgeon, and live prawns rounded out the offerings, while cold appetizers such as spicy beef offals, scallion chicken, and cucumber with minced garlic gave diners a chance to balance the heat.
Over the years, the online reviews have been quite mixed.
Some praised Chengdu Spicy for its bold, authentic flavours and generous portions of classics like dan dan noodles, chili oil wontons, and spicy clams.
Others felt the food leaned too oily or salty, and service was often called out as inconsistent, with reports of inattentive staff and long waits.
Despite the criticisms, the restaurant built a following among Sichuan fans who appreciated having a dedicated spot for spicy, numbing fare in Richmond.
Back in early August, the famous street for food also saw the closure of HuDa.
With its closure, Chengdu Spicy now joins other recent Richmond departures such as Ember Indian Kitchen, Tastii Studio, and Shuyi Tealicious.
