Sad News: This Popular Main Street Ramen Shop Has Abruptly Shut Down

It is a sad week for ramen lovers in Mount Pleasant.

Just as we were getting used to the new year, a Noms Magazine community member tipped us off to some unfortunate news regarding a popular spot on Main Street.

Ramen Kounotori, known for its creamy chicken broth and cozy vibes, has shut down abruptly.

There was no big farewell announcement or countdown.

Instead, a simple handwritten sign taped to the front door confirmed the closure, reading: “We closed the restaurant. Sorry, thanks for your support!!”

Further confirmation comes from the restaurant’s Google listing, which has already been updated to “Permanently closed.”

It appears the shop served its final bowl this past Sunday.

Ramen Kounotori first opened its doors back in 2023, bringing a unique poultry-focused concept to the area.

The name itself was a clever play on words; “Kounotori” refers to the white stork (the bird that brings happiness), while the “tori” part refers to chicken, highlighting their signature rich chicken broth.

It was a refreshing change of pace in a city dominated by pork-based tonkotsu, earning them a solid 4.5-star rating on Google and a loyal following who appreciated the depth of flavour.

The closure marks another blow to the local dining scene, which has seen a string of departures recently.

Ramen Kounotori joins a growing list of notable closures in Vancouver, including the recent shutdowns of Restaurant Yugo, Rogue Kitchen & Wet Bar Broadway, and Sulbing on Robson.
